Tonight was Changeover night, the most important night of the year when President Margaret relinquished the chains of office and passed them on to Terry Cairns - 2007/8 President.
Congratulations to Margaret for a great year, and for the gtining of an RI Presidential Citation - well done Margaret and all members of the club iun helping her achieve that goal.
Also significant was the awarding of a PHF Sapphire Pin to long serving member John McKenzie. I believe that Johnwas quite overcome with the presentation. Congratulations John, and well done. That makes three sapphire pins that the club has awarded, namely DJack Dunlop, Mike Smith and now John McKenzie.
Also present was newly installed District Governer John Tarbutt and his wife Linda. Great to have you along to what was another memorable Ahuriri changeover night.

Stephen Jacobi was our guest speaker tonight. He spoke on the importance of USA - NZ relations, and how the USA admires and appreciates the qualities that New Zealand demonstrates and follows.
It certainly opened the eyes of many of our members present, for we appear to need the USA (50% of our exports go to the USA) as much as they need us as a very very very good friend, and notwithstanding the Nuclear issue relations with the USA continue to improve markedly.
An amazing speaker and those who missed him will be very disappointed.

Assistant Governor Carol Charman visited the club tonight. No special speech - just a nice social visit to catch up.
Here she is chatting with President Margaret and geoff Myles before the meeting.
Nice to see you, Carol.

Sandra Ibbotson came to talk to us about the Community patrols being set up in Napier to combat crime. The project is now becoming common throughout New Zealand - over 80 patrols have been set up.
It has met with considerable success and is welcomed and supported by the Police. All community minded citizens should consider this, only 4 hours per month is the normal expectation and your duties are to observe and report - not to intervene.
If you want to give something back to your community give Sandy a ring on 06 843 9770. She'd welcome your call.
