Opening of Rotary Pathway December 2004
Saturday 11th December 2004 was the date for the opening of the second section of the Rotary Pathway - the 5 km section from Napier City to Awatoto.
Many of those who had been associated with the building of this section were present at the opening, and with many members of the public also taking the chance to be the first to officially use the walkway an unofficial count of those present was put at about 150.
As can be seen from the pictures, all ages were represented as were all modes of people powered transport, from skates through invalid walkers to bicycles.
Participants were given a certificate (see picture) according to how far along the pathway they were able to go, with many of those certificates also carrying a small prize, such as a pedometer.
Everybody had a good mornings exercise - all over by 11am.
We all look forward to the completion of the next section from Awatoto to Taradale along the river stopbanks. This is scheduled for the end of 2005.
