The Rotary Pathway - a combined Rotary Community project

What is the Rotary Pathway
The Rotary Pathway is an initiative by Napier City Council and the combined Rotary Clubs of Napier.
The Rotary Pathway Trust was formed in 2002 with the objective of building a walkway and cycleway in stages that would eventually surround Napier City.
The Pathway is aimed at improving on-road and off-road facilities for walkers, joggers and cyclists within the City. It is a comprehensive plan for the next 10 years designed to encourage families and tourists to see Napier the recreational way.
The Pathway will be well defined with various grades of sealing, well lit (particularly around Marine Parade and other high-use areas) and will be extended for seating, landscaping and shelter areas.

What is the Timing of the Project?
Part of this project has already been completed in conjunction with the upgrading of Church Road.
Stage One of the Pathway completed between Bay View and Westshore mid 2003
Marine Parade (New Pool to Aquarium) currently in progress
Kennedy Road at end of 2003
Lagoon Farm link (Church Rd to Motorway) will start in 2004
Marine Parade (Aquarium to Tutaekuri River) will start at the end 2004
Stop Bank link - sea to Taradale at the end of 2004
Links that are missing to complete pathways will be started end 2004

How is the Project Funded?
Funding will come from a variety of sources. Where there is a direct safety benefit, Transfund are prepared to fund up to 47% of the cost.
Sections that are built in conjunction with roading construction, or upgrading, become part of that road and the Napier City Council will fund their share of these projects as and when they are built.
Off road sections of The Pathway are those where a Rotary input becomes vital. Here Rotary become the fundraisers and can decide the timing.

How can I become involved?
Easy.
Napier's six Rotary Clubs need to raise $750,000 for this project. You, your family, or your Company will be able to have naming rights for:

Kilometers of the Pathway
Lighting
Shelter areas
Exercise areas
Maps
Signage
Drinking Fountains
... and much, much more.

Your name or your own specially designed plaque will ensure that countless visitors and users of the Pathway will see your community involvement.
