The Admiralty Trees
Visited 21 March 2005
A small group of Rotarians made a special visit to the Admiralty Trees on this day for the special purpose of presenting David matches with a Certificate of Appreciation for his work in facilitating the Admiralty Trees project.
President Bruce is seen on right presenting David with his certificate.
A couple of members (Ron Morison and Ian Findlay) had not been to the top of the ridge to see the project before, and so the opportunity was taken to take 6 members to the top via a couple of quad bikes provided by Stuart Morice and John Orum.
Most surprisingly it was dead calm at the top, but the pleasantness of that was more than compensated for by the presence of huge swarms of flying ants which got everywhere. Perhaps a little wind to blow them away would have been preferable.
A close inspection of the trees showed that whilst most were in good and healthy order, some are being affected by a caterpillar which is causing the leaves to curl and be eaten. It was decided that a couple of members would return as soon as possible to treat the plants with a suitable spray.
Our pictures below are of the trip to the top - most appreciated by all who went. There are plans afoot to stage a picnic at the trees next summer - weather permitting
